About us
Engineering as a discipline, not a trade
Altamar Labs designs, implements, and optimizes distributed systems for payments, bank integrations, data pipelines, and SaaS products. The studio grew out of 6+ years of work in regulated fintech, operational logistics, and its own products built end to end, starting in 2020 with internal dashboards and PHP websites.
The specialty is backend architecture, API design, and real-time integrations, combining engineering reliability with business scalability in fintech and data-intensive products. That backend foundation is complemented by experience in logistics (routing, geospatial tracking), native Android development (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose), and browser extension engineering: a complete system can be designed without depending on someone else to cover half the stack.
Behind Altamar Labs is Alfonso Altamar, full-stack engineer and technical co-founder. He's founder and CTO of two companies of his own, Soluti (a logistics distribution center in Colombia) and Agendity (a scheduling SaaS for salons and barbershops), and in parallel still works as an engineer inside other companies' teams, on bank integrations and e-commerce with complex payments. That combination, founder and also engineer inside a team, is intentional: it keeps him honest about which architecture decisions are actually necessary and which are just preference.
Outside client work, the lab keeps a steady pace of work of its own: automation, connectors to third-party systems, browser extensions, data pipelines. None of it is built on assignment; it comes from the same technical curiosity behind everything else. Several of the blog's topics come directly from there.
Work happens from Medellín, Colombia, in a timezone that overlaps several hours a day with the US and much of Europe, which makes live coordination simple even with fully remote teams.
